well i have one and took pig hunting last week end with 40gr v-max rounds i got to shoot a 150 lbs pig from about 50 yards. not only did i get him in the neck it did a bit of damage and left a hole the size of a quarter he dropped and kicked a bit and by the time i got to him he was dead. tho its not the best hunting and defense round or even my first choice. it will get the job done. i hope this helpedThis is about the FN FIVE SEVEN ? people that actually have one, how is the power for hunting and self defenc
I have the pistol. It is not a hunting handgun and it has limited defensive applications.

For small game it'll do you but its a more of a 'reach way out thar and hurt ya' caliber. Kinda like the M-16, its not a hunter but it sure will wound, maim and disable out to 600 meters!

Of course it can be used defensively, but... Home defense? Well, its kinda LOUD to fire in an enclosed bedroom. If you miss your target it'll sure go through a lot of dry wall. Concealed carry? It is every bit as bulky as my Glock Model 20 10mm and I consider the 10mm more utilitarian.

So where does it shine? Well, it is a high velocity round that will shoot far and it holds a whole lot of ammo. Mine came with three 20 round magazines. It is possible to add a ten-round extender to each magazine.

A Campus Cop friend of mine has one too and was going to try to get his department to authorize it for duty-carry. His reasoning is that the bullet is moving so fast that it'll self-destruct on the first barrier it strikes thus rendering its harmless against innocent by-standers. And in the extreme case where its called to duty it won't over-penetrate and should be at least as good a stopper as the M-16. Makes sense, sort of, I guess but I wouldn't want to attend school at THAT campus!

You might wonder why I got mine? Rumor has it that with the right ammo it'll defeat ballistic vests. Who knows, but I sure know that it loads a whole bunch of bullets! My duty 10mm only holds 15 and one in spout. I sure don't wanna run outta ammo before the bad guy does and that's one less 5.7mm that's not out on the streets that I'll have to worry about as a Texas Peace Officer.

H
very few people own a 5-7 pistol or a civilian p90. y!answers may not be the best place to ask, if you you don't get any answers here, try posting on thehighroad.org. the whole forum is about guns, that gotta be at least a couple people who owns them there.

just a suggestion.

and if you don't know already, the 5.7x28mm is the only pistol bullet that easily penetrate regular body armor, even without special ap ammo.
No I don't have one either. But I have a .22 magnum. The 5.7x28mm and .22 mag. are very close ballistically. Anything you read about the .22 WMR about hunting/defense would hold true for the 5.7 with similar bullets.
WOW! You ask for only people with experience to speak and only the a'holes pipe up!

Go figure....

Sorry bud, that is not my fav firearm so my input wouldn't apply.
