around 1000 to 1700 fpsWhat is the most accurate pelet/airgun that is good for hunting?
I have to respectfully disagree with the previous poster's claim about Gamo air rifles. I have the Gamo Nitro break-barrel air rifle with their decent 3-9x scope, and I DO hunt gophers and moles with the PBA ammo, and it is DEADLY accurate. I just made a headshot on a gopher poking out of our garden hillside from approximately 18-20 yards. I've taken 5 gophers with this setup this spring already!
If memory serves, I bought it online from Midsouth Shooter Supply (http://www.midsouthshootersupply.com/)What is the most accurate pelet/airgun that is good for hunting?
';Hunter' gave you a lot of good info.
The speed of sound is ';around'; 347ms at sea level.
IMO air rifles perform best at around 900fps
%26gt;%26gt;What is the most accurate/powerful pellet rifle for hunting?%26lt;%26lt;
If you want the best and cost is no option. :))
Daystate Air Ranger

A very powerful/accurate PCP
Evanix Hunting Master AR6

If you want a break barrel springer, I highly recommend.
RWS 350 Magnum

Other great pellet rifles
Beeman R1 or RX-2
Air Arms TX200
IMO, the best value air rifle is the RWS 34

The RWS 34 is powerful, accurate %26amp; durable.
';Gamo'; rifles for the most part*** are not accurate when compared to top of the line air rilfes. AND: Gamo uses ultra light weight PBA Raptor pellets to get those highly inflated fps numbers
***The CFX is the most accurate Gamo rifle
Later: %26lt;added%26gt; Read reviews on Gamo and PBA ';Raptor'; pellets.
http://www.pyramydair.com %26gt;articles %26amp; blog %26gt;Many of the airguns on PA have articles/reviews written on them. Read them and the follow ups from other airgunners. Good luck finding one in which anyone proclaims ';Gamo Raptor'; pellets as being the most accurate.

You ask for ';the most accurate'; and Gamo along with many other popular air rifles are not among ';the most accurate';.
You did place accuracy as your first criteria, as it should be.
When I'm ask what I look for in a hunting air rifle. My reply is always the same 5 things.
#1 - Accuracy
#2 - Accuracy
#3 - Accuracy
#4 - Fit/Finish/Feel/Quality
#5 - FPS
I will take pin point accuracy with just enough power to get the job done, any day over a rifle with an inflated fps number that's not all that accurate.
I think Beeman .22
I like the Benjamin .22 (Model 392) even though they are a lot slower than what you are asking for.
if you break the soun barrier which i believe is somewhere around 1060 fps then all acuuracy will be lost due to the pellet becoming unstable.A .177 caliber pellet is only effective up to 1000 fps, after that you will have problems with overpenetration. The .177 is fine for hunting and is very accurate due to is flat trajectory. Now if you want more knockdown then go with the .22 calibe pellet.Because of its larger size and diameter it will transfer its energy much more efficiantly than the .177 pellet. It will be less subsurviant to the wind to.However its trajectory is not as flat as the .177 caliber pellet.
Here are some good choises that met your criteria.Note that some guns might fall short of your desired fps however are still great guns.

Well those are all great choises for airgun hunting.I know i know some are just a little under powerd. But they make up with their wuality and accuracy.
Here is a nice little article on bejamin air rifles.
