Can I buy bullet/knife proof vest in hunting shop?

Normally hunting shops sell the kind of stuffs? which kind of shops sell the bullet/knife proof vest? Can I buy bullet/knife proof vest in hunting shop?
most soft vests will not stop a sharp pointed knife or ice pick, they will stop a slashing attack. Vests can be purchased thru ';cop shops'; and police supply houses online. Second chance is one of the best.

good luck

No, hunting equipment stores don't sell that sort of thing. You need to find a police equipment dealer. Here are two that you could contact:

David Cook

email: david.cook3@baesystems.com

Telephone: (905) 814-5175

Don MacDiarmid

email: d.macdiarmid@mts.net

Telephone: (204) 837-4080
no. hunting shops dont normally sell this kind of stuff. hunting shops sell stuff to kill animals.

you could try the local military surplus store, if you're lucky the clerk might test it out with the shotgun under the counter, while you try it on.
You go to the upper right corner of this page (web search) then type in Bullet proof vest and then click web search.

  • Basics and Tips on Javalina (Wild Boar) Hunting in Texas?

I want to go wild boar hunting but I can't really find any super good information about it. I live in the Austin area and I just want to know to go about hunting boars , basics I should know and tips from personal huntsBasics and Tips on Javalina (Wild Boar) Hunting in Texas?
Eli, the answer H gave you has alot of good info on the javelinas. If your wanting to hunt boars; there are alot of areas near Austin where you will find Feral Hog hunts. The male feral hog has are known as boars and can be very large. Hunting them can be done a variety of ways; stand hunting with a rifle, stalking with a pistol, running them with dogs and using a knife, and something I just got to try this past spring was a dog and spear hunt. Feral hogs are increasing in numbers all over the state. We have even found them on the Rio Grand between Del Rio and Big Bend now. In south east Texas and in parts of Louisiana there are some of the original Russian boars that were brought here during the settling of the republic.

If this is a first trip for you, go online and look for the guides and hunts in the Kerrville area. You can get affordable hunts and there available year round. There is no limit on feral hogs in the state. For Javelina your allowed two per license year. Good luck and good hunting. Basics and Tips on Javalina (Wild Boar) Hunting in Texas?
Hi Eli. Javalina (Peccary) are not true boars although the male Javalina is often called a boar. It is generally considered the smallest of the North American big game.

Javalina, also known as Collared Peccary in Texas travel in packs. A huge one will get up to sixty pounds on the hoof with 30 to 40 lbs. being average. They are nearly black in color except for a white 'collar' down the sides of their neck. They lack a pig's tail which is the quickest way for the uninitiated to tell them from a true wild boar (also known as feral hog). Javalina and ferel hog do not cross-breed (as they are two distinct species of animal) but are sometimes seen together. Where I hunt there is no closed season on javalina (or wild boar) but there is a bag limit of two per year on javalina. You do need a standard Texas Hunting license to hunt javalina.

When I was a kid we hunted javalina with .22s or .22 Magnums. I'd use a centerfire rifle now because they are tougher than you would think and they can be dangerous, charging when wounded. Like the true wild boar javalina have impressive tusks that can inflict a nasty wound. Don't approach a dropped javalina unless you know it is dead. A couple of last things...

The female or very young make better table fare as javalina have a musk gland at the base of their back that can make the meat taste nasty if not killed outright. Some hunters even remove this gland right after shooting them. You can remove the gamey flavor by de-boning and soaking the flesh in milk, vinegar-n-water or even beer in the fridge overnight. Finally, 99.9% of the time javalina are going to be infested with fleas and ticks. It is best to hunt them in the winter during cold days. The fleas seem to drop away quicker. Hunters sometimes don't even approach a dead javalina for ten or twenty minutes to give the fleas time to drop away. Neck and head shots are best on javalina.

    Happy hunting.

If I get a felony exsponged from my record can I own a deer hunting gun?

You need to check the laws in your state. If I get a felony exsponged from my record can I own a deer hunting gun?
if it is expunged, it is as if it never happened.

On a job application if they ask you 'have you ever been arrested?' you can even answer NO because all parts leading up to the felony conviction are gone as well.If I get a felony exsponged from my record can I own a deer hunting gun?
No, the only way to obtain your rights to own a firearm is either through a governors or presidential pardon.

Having the felony expunged from your record does not reinstate your right to own firearms. You must be fully pardoned.
yes you should be able to get a gun,,, and a hunting license,, also a bow is considered a weapon ok a lot will depend upon your age and the offense of said crime ok thanks eddie
yeah you can if not you can hunt with a bow
    Yes.*
Maybe. Are you going to buy it or steal it?
Not going to happen you can't get a felony expunged.

What if Prince Charles was accidentally shot to death by the Vice President while hunting, then what ?

Since you used the word ';accidentally';, then it IS an accident. I noticed you keep asking about various people being shot by the Vice President. It doesn't matter who they are...get over it!!!! It was an accident. I would rather go hunting with Chaney then riding with Kennedy...you may be too young to remember that a woman drowned to death while T. Kennedy was driving under the influence of alochol and HE didn't report it til days later.....look it up....Chappaquidick, Mass...What if Prince Charles was accidentally shot to death by the Vice President while hunting, then what ?
The guy in Texas is more of a man than Prince Charles any day. The same thing would happen. It would just take longer. The key word in your question is ACCIDENTLYWhat if Prince Charles was accidentally shot to death by the Vice President while hunting, then what ?
I guess Harry would have to jump in as inheritor of the throne, once removed. William, of course would be the next in line to succeed the old man. Athough much pomp and circumstance would follow, along with a lot of criticism towards the old USA, some Brits would be quietly delighted to see Bounty Prince Charlie take one for the gipper.
then the vice pres will be impeached and go to jail for murder and prince harry will be one step closer to be king
Prince William would become direct heir to the throne, and an even bigger idol for teenage American girls.
War with England. (or they might thank us)
An investigation into neglegant homicide (like they do with drunk drivers who kill).
The world would be none the worse and I would be laughing my *** off. Do you think that Bush will ever want to go hunting with Cheney? Maybe they should be made to.
I supose we would miss Survivor and American Idol because we would have to watch the news coverage and funeral on t.v. instead.
I have been thinking about the sad state of human beings who ahve acheived the highest offices of the land, and all that money can buy. The VP office and 55000 acres ranch for the lawyer. And I wander what is it that makes such human beings, both aging and close to the time at the funeral home, want to go out to kill poor quail families.

I guess when you do not lose any sleep over dropping bombs on poor human beings in distant lands, it hardly calls for any twitches of conscience to kill quail families for pleasure.
A huge international incident like that would defiantly rock the relations between the U.S. and the UK. I would be anxious to see how much longer they remained our allies
Luckily for us girls we get to see more of Prince William.
There would be a dead Prince Charles! ; )
either hed be put the vice president to death as an im sorry by bush or hed tell the royal family he didnt care wat they said harry was probably stoned at the time and hed go to war with anyone who disagread, even the vice president
He could say he mistook him for a large bird because: ';Charles Dumbo doesn't need a Jumbo';. (BTW I like Charles)
Seems like Royal Lady has a political axe to grind. I thought the question was a joke but she is right riding with Kennedy or hunting with Cheney ... both blood sports, what!

Is a shotgun or rifle better for hunting squirrels?

i don't know any squirrels who hunt. sorry. Is a shotgun or rifle better for hunting squirrels?
Bird shot might do it with a .410 shotgun. But if you're gonna hunt squirrels grab a .22 man.Is a shotgun or rifle better for hunting squirrels?
shotgun man it makes them explode. Hollow points does a squirrel body BAD lol
Noooooooooo it is wrong to kill animals for your own sicko pleasures. You should stop and think about why you want to do such despicable things.
either but make sure u point them to your head and fire before the hunt, enjoy...
Well, a varmint is a varmint...and the only good varmint is a dead one. :-)

I would prefer using a .22 rifle. Although you may hit more squirrels with a shotgun, there is little sport in it and it doesn't improve your target shooting. A rifle requires a bit more skill and practice to hit squirrels.
A shotgun, because it fires shot rather than bullets. A squirrel is a very small, fast animal, hitting it with a rifle bullet would be very difficult (although, you could hit the squirrel from further away, which may be an advantage). However a shotgun fires a spreading shot, meaning you have to be far less accurate.
Depends on how good a shot you are. A squirrel is a small target. This is why shotguns are used, the spread of the pellets makes it more likely you will hit the target, at least with something.
If you are in a state where there is an official squirrel hunt, check the regulations. Some states have requirements as to what type of gun you can and can't use.
None of the above. We feed them nuts and watch them ride on tiny surfboards. They are cute and no meat on them to eat anyway. Why would you want to kill them?
A shotty will pepper it full of holes, so if you want to do something with the hide, use a rifle.
    neither
Please dont kill Squirrels.. I like them very much..
    Shotgun.
For food I would use a rifle. High powered pellet rifles for pest control in that they are less expensive(however I think if it is for pest control than you should trap and reslease them)
    shotgun man!!

Is it too crazy to think that hunting makes you feel more alive?

No not at all, To put it bluntley I think Many of us are as one with nature and the land when we hunt, We live to hunt.

Its not just about the hunt its about pashionIs it too crazy to think that hunting makes you feel more alive?
no it is just the adrenaline. Is it too crazy to think that hunting makes you feel more alive?
    That makes sense
I eat therefor I hunt and when I eat I stay alive, therefor hunting makes me feel more alive.
you mean it makes you feel in power yes and no
No way! Quality time alone in the woods with Mother Nature is priceless.
NO! Not crazy at all, there is the thrill of the hunt, the exhilleration of taking the perfect shot at the perfect time, yes, it's a very ALIVE experience. Even if you don't even see a deer, just being in nature, walking, watching, listening, yeah... there's something to be said about that.
no, it is the thrill of making the kill, i think hunting is one of the most fun things to do as long as you use everthing you can, and just kill for the trophy
Not at all. Hunting takes us back to our primitive roots. It is in every one of us to be a hunter. Going hunting brings up that natural feeling. Even if you don't even see a deer it just feels good to get outdoors and enjoy it.

Here's a passage from an article in Field %26amp; Stream that I like:

    ';Each time I walk into the woods with my bow, I rediscover how infinite nature is and how transitory and small I am. My carefully maintained suburban identity falls away like a dry husk. I become more alert. My consciousness opens up. I am focused, aware, alive. I am hunting.';
In everything that is alive, their is a natural instinct to kill. It just takes certain situations t activate that emotion for different people. Once you got it down, it's hard to turn off...
    Not crazy at all.

There's nothing better than being able to get yourself out of the house, hiking into the woods, sitting perfectly still, or stalking your game all day and getting that ';once in a lifetime'; shot.

I'm of the belief that (unless its vermin) if you kill it you eat it (goes for fishing as well). NOTHING worse than a poacher!
no theres nothing better than a day away from everything you should be doing just getting caught up ina good hunt
    maybe a little sad...
No offense...but killing makes you feel more alive? Isn麓t it a little sarcastic?

How to use a phone for ghost hunting?

how can I use my camera phone (samsung propel btw) to ghost hunt??

please help me. thanksHow to use a phone for ghost hunting?
Using a Camera phone is possible, but not very ideal or practical. For one, you most likely don't have a stand alone flash which is usually neccessary. Most Ghost Hunting is done at night and camera phones usually just don't stand up to regualr flash capable digital CCD cameras.

If you are to use a camera on and you are set on using it, you can however acheive some better night shots by lowering your iso to 400 if possible. and raising your composition to 800 if u can.

Well if you use your camera phone you must also take angel or area shots of any spirit that you may see ... For if you take a direct shot of a spirit you may not get to see with a camera that object you witness with your eyes.......
A digital camera is sometimes used to detect the electrical changes made by spirits. So, just take some pictures.

I am looking into buying a cutco hunting knife. Are they a good brand to go with, or a waste of money?

Great for the kitchen because of the blade design (DD), but that would be lousy when trying to gut a deer. Their standard blades are not worth the money they charge. A good carbon steel open blade knife is all you need. $20-30I am looking into buying a cutco hunting knife. Are they a good brand to go with, or a waste of money?
    Hello,

I sell cutco. I use my cutco knives everyday. I bought a hunting knife in the bright orange for my uncle's birthday. He loved it and said it works great. If your interested i can write up an order for you. Also just so you know there is a life time warranty on the cutco knifes.

I am looking into buying a cutco hunting knife. Are they a good brand to go with, or a waste of money?
I'm not familuar with that brand, although I have been using knives for many years and now I'll only buy carbon steel knives.

The SS used in knife making has gotten better but it will not hold an edge as well as good carbon steel.

The best stainless I have found is AUS8A and it seems to be much better than the 440A types many makers use. I've herd some good reports about the stainless knives coming out of Germany but no first hand expirence.

The last knife I bought was a Marbles and the blade steel is something to behold, I can field dress a deer and then skin and quater it and the knife will still shave hair from my arm.

I have never had a SS blade that would do this without several touchups. Glenn
very good choice! I have a kitchen set and I love them!
cutco is the worlds finest knives. proven over and over again or they would not be called the worlds finest since 1949. they would be out of business by know. cutco is the #1 selling brand in the word with over 15 million satisfied customers. a forever guarantee that cutco will sharpen and replace any knife for free at anytime. all my friends and family own and love cutco and 99% of people who own it love it. it is a very good product and if you are intrested i have a i know a rep that works for cutco and is very nice and i would be glad to have her get ahold of you and get you a knife that i knowyou will enjoy.
    buy it
They are very good knives but are overpriced because of the way they are marketed.
I have a cutco set, and I do like the knives. But, it's my belief that you can get just as good a knife for a lesser price. Were you planning on the DD edge or the straight edge? For the DD i would recommend Cutco, they are good knives but you will not be able to sharpen it. If you were thinking of a straight edge I would go with a good Buck hunting knife instead.
    Hello

It depends on your definition of ';good';. Are they sharp? Definitely. Are they ';the best';? I would say no, but what is best to one person is not best to another. I know a lot about them, having sold them off and on for near 20 years. So I can tell you that the steel is 440C, a very good steel for sharpness and stain resistance. The best? No, there are better grades of steel that are sharper. But, they can be more difficult to sharpen. And this is one of the two areas where Cutco stands out.

On the hunting knife they have a DD edge (stands for double durable). The very tips are dull to protect the actual sharp cutting edge, which is recessed just below those dull tips. This keeps the edge from taking unecessary harmful friction, which is what dulls an edge. Unless you are constantly forcing it through bone, shoving it in the ground or using it to saw limbs out of your shooting path, this edge will last you for years, and many game animals gutted and or skun out. Think my brother did like 27 deer before having to have his resharpened by the factory! Which they will do for the cost of return shipping (like $5)

The other area Cutco stands out is in their warranty of the product. They have a Forever Guarantee on all their products (they're mostly known for their kitchen knives). Basically, if the knife is defective in materials or craftmanship (ie it rusts, breaks, falls apart etc) under normal useage, they will replace it free of charge - forever! You don't have to be the original purchaser, or even have a receipt. You could find one in the woods and send it in if its defective, and they will give you a new one. And yes, they honor this guarantee. I have literally sent in over 200 knives in my career and they sent me back many a brand new knife. Some I knew I would get a new knife because it was obvious. Other times tthey surprised me because all I thought would happen is that it would get buffed, polished and sharpened . So, they are extremely good about the guarantee.

Pricey? Yeah, they aren't cheap. But when you look at what you get out of a knife that is going to serve you for 20, 30 or more years, its a solid deal. Better yet, it does what it was supposed to do - field dress and skin your game with ease. So, from that basis - service and length of use - they are a solid buy.

That said, here's my sales pitch. LOL I have numerous Cutco hunting, fishing and sporting knives that I have gathered in my 20 year career. Many of them are rare and discontinued - like a brand new #62 hunting knie from the 50's, a near mint #1063 Fish Filet knife from the 60's; a brand new 1765 hunter (looks like a Puma White Hunter and is way beefier than the current hunter. The blade is literally twice the thickness!); and also many folding hunters like the Stag and Rosewood Bullwhips; a super rare Blue Pakkawood that is extra beefy and lots more in pocket knives, kitchen wares and accesories like letter openers, an electric carving knife, etc, etc! I also have many of thecurrent line of Cutco sport knives at a price well discounted from their retail (I still have last years price list, so I know current pricing and I make sure to beat it on the new stuff) Ok, sales pitch over. ;)

If I have not answered all of your questions on what you would like to know about Cutco's hunting knife, feel free to email me with more questions. And if you are not interested in my wares, I am not one of those super pushy guys who hounds someone for a sale. I have them posted here in my area and I'm selling a lot of them to people who are already familiar with the brand. I even sold a hunting knife to a guy in England!

    Hope this helps,

    Phil

For the past few years me and my friends would ghost hunt at this place called Dixmont State Hospitals and a few other places around the Pittsburgh area but all these places are getting torn down or are already torn down just was wondering if anyone knows of any cool abandon places or just any place thats haunted and scary :-P I would travel about an hour or 2 if its some place real cool

    thanks for everyones help

Dan Ghost Hunting Pittsburgh Abandon Hospitals,Insane asylum, any big building
Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky is reputed to be a great scary night. It's $100 per person, but I hear it's worth it. There's also Mansfield Reformatory, which was already suggested. I've always wanted to go to Eastern State Penitentiary in Pennsylvania. All these places have websites, check them out.Ghost Hunting Pittsburgh Abandon Hospitals,Insane asylum, any big building
I live in Columbiana County Ohio. There is a really haunted park there called Gretchens Lock. Lots of ghosts there. Also right above it is the site where Pretty Boy Floyd was captured and killed/murdered. This happened on Oct. 23 of 1934. As it gets closer to the time of his death, he gets more and more insane, supposedly. I can tell you there is something there. I have a very scary EVP from there that I got in September. There is enough ghostly activity to make the 45 min drive from Pittsburgh worth your drive. Look some of it up on the web by looking for www.deadohio.com/beavercreek
I grew up about 2 miles from Dixmont State Hospital. It was still in operation then and no one was allowed on the grounds except patients and employee's. Of course we used to ride our bike's through the woods and go fishing in the reservoir there!%26lt;G%26gt; I would love to hear what if anything groups have found there.

You might want to look into the house that was shown on Unsolved Mysteries a few years ago in West Virgina. I think it was in Moundsville right on the river.Supposedly it is haunted and lots of activity has been observed.
It is time you quit teasing yourself with toys and go for the big guns. Below I've listed two that are within your range.

When you're ready for it, there is an asylum in New York, it's been closed but not everybody left, I am sure they would like you...for..a..guest...
Come to Southern Ohio. Its full of haunted abandoned homes, hospitals, etc. Cemetaries are haunted here too.

I am looking for the kinjg of kings of air rifles in .22 for hunting gmedium size game and etc.?

And price can not be over $2,000. I work on a farm and am looking for a air rifle that can take out medium size game at far distances in .22 cal, Without a huge noise report. ThanksI am looking for the kinjg of kings of air rifles in .22 for hunting gmedium size game and etc.?
CF45 nailed it. .22 air-rifles don't really have have enough power for medium game animals (ranging from coyotes and javelina to small deer). If you want an air-rifle that has enough power to be assured of a kill, you'd need something like the Quakenbush series in either .458 or .308.

If by medium game you meant small game animals like squirrel, rabbit, birds, raccoons, possum, etc... Look for a .22 caliber air-rifle that generates a muzzle velocity in excess of 800-900 fps like the Gamo Hunter Extreme22 or maybe the Gamo Whisper22.I am looking for the kinjg of kings of air rifles in .22 for hunting gmedium size game and etc.?
The only animals that I think are suitable for using an air rifle for are rabbits, squirrels, and similar sized game, even then a .22lr is your best choice, cheaper rifle and ammos about the same price. I don't think even the most powerful air rifle is suitable for racoons or simalar sized animals, coons are tough, and I don't think you should use anything less than a .22 rimfire rifle, and it will also extend your range of fire also.
There are no .22 caliber air rifles(pellet) that will take medium size game*, reliable, cleanly and humanely**.

The most powerful, and reasonable priced .22 caliber air rifle I know of is the Evanix Hunting Master AR6(64.6fpe)

    http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.鈥?/a>

*I'm going to take it by ';medium size game'; that you mean, Fox, Coyote, Bobcat, etc

**Can it be done, yes, but only with head shots at close range and even then it's an iffy proposition.

Later: %26lt;added%26gt; in response to your added info. The Hunting Master AR6 is capable of taking racoon size game, out to a reasonable range.
raccoons are pretty easy. a 500fps with 14gr pellet to the head can put down a raccoon at 20yards. the gamo extreme.22 or a webley patriot.22 will easily take it out at further distances if you hit it in its chest or head. i've done plenty raccoons at 50yards with my 850fps cfx22.

    http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/show.p鈥?/a>

pcp's are not quiet, they are more powerful than springers and much louder. if you want quietness than you will have to scrafice on distance and power.
Check into Anschutz, they make air rifles, 22s and 22 Hornets. They are a premium line of German made equipment. Very Decent quality for any price range.

Although I know I can use a crossbow, I am still uncertain whether I have to use it from a vehicle only.

I believe you're required to show that you're physically incapable of hunting with a compound bow due to your disability.
If you walk with a cane, by order of a Doctor, you may qualify for a crossbow exemption.Check with your states DNR online for more information.
you have to have a letter from your doc stating that you have a upper body disability.they are pretty good about not being real strict.

  • Red dawn happens what 10 guns for hunting and self defense?

what 10 guns do you take?

    hunting

    self defense

only guns you can buy over the counter pleaseRed dawn happens what 10 guns for hunting and self defense?
If Red Dawn happened, I would pick these 10 guns:

    1. AK-47 - they are super reliable.

    2. My AR-15 - super accurate and the patriot weapon of choice.

    3. Colt 1911 .45 handgun - a great manstopper handgun.

    4. .22 bolt action rifle - for hunting small game like rabbits and squirrels.

    5. Remington 700 .308 bolt action with 1000 meter scope - for hunting big game like deer, elk, moose. And for sniping on the bad guys too.

    6. Glock 17 9mm w/ high capacity clips - great urban handgun and very durable.

    7. Armalite AR-10 .308 - it is an AR-15 but that shoot .308 instead of .223 and is a battle proven rifle.

    8. 12 gauge Remington 870 w/ pistol grip - good for hunting birds with birdshot, and good for room clearing when loaded with 3 inch magnum 00 buckshot shells.

    9. Israeli Galil rifle - it is a glorified AK-47. It has the reliability of an AK-47 but the accuracy of an AR-15. It is the best of both worlds and uses American .223 ammo.

    10. Marlin 30-30 lever action - a great brush gun and for deer hunting.Red dawn happens what 10 guns for hunting and self defense?
To answer your question on 10 guns

    1. An ARMALIGHT Ar-15 Carbine, With a few custom buck roger bolt on crap that you really don't need, but clamp on any way.

    2. AK-74, that's what the ruskies are using now. So, I would have an unlimited supply of ammo. Well, depending how many I sent to their maker.

    3. Springfield Armory 1911 Operator. In my opinion nothing beats a highly tuned 1911.

    4. Mossberg 500 breacher, for those pesky doors that won't open.

    5. Ruger Mark II Suppressed with regular and subsonic ammo, For hunting and those brain stem shots.

    6. M60E4, to set up a defensive position.

    7. FIM-92 Stinger, to swat down bothersom flys AKA HinD's AKA RUSSIAN CHOPPERS.

8.M24a2, for those 1000 meters head shots.

    9. ppk, something small I could hide on my person in case i was captured.

    10. Since this is a ';fake'; list and There is no way in hell that I would be able to carry 10 firearms if this happened. A FAMAS G2, I have always wanted to shoot one.

On a serious note, IF this scenario actually went down. I would be lucky to get my gear on and my weapons

like the other guy said, You could only carry 2 firearms, 3 TOPS.

In the real scenario, I would grab my AK-74 because its what the russian would be using and I could steal their ammo. And my 1911, for a sidearm. Plus, my trusty 500 breacher for doors...
The major problem would be ammo. So I would not get ten guns of the same caliber. If you can not find that caliber you are holding ten clubs. Besides buying guns I would load up on ammo and reloading stuff for my favorite five.

First gun, something that shoots the .223 . I like the Century Arms Golani. It is an AK design but shoots the 223. A far more reliable design than the M16. That ammo is all over the place and easy to find. You can pick up 1000 round cases for 40 cents a round without a problem.

Second gun, something that shoots the 308. M1A would be my choice as modern ones have removable magazines so you can have them loaded up ahead of time. Again, there is a lot of surplus stuff out there and this has greater range and stopping power than the 223. It is also easy to reload.

Third gun. 45 ACP 1911A1. The 45 ACP is very common and has a lot of stopping power. The XD models of Springfield Armory also gives you large capacity magazines. Easy to reload.

Fourth gun. 9mm Baretta. 9mm is the standard military gun of today and while I do not think much of 9 mm, ammo is easy to find.

You can reload but the 9mm is a bit more picky than the 45.

Fifth gun. 357 mag revolver. I like Rugers as they are made tough. The Smith and Wessons shoot better but they are a bit more delicate. May not be able to find a lot of 357 mag but it also shoots the 38 Special which is also one of the most common rounds available. And very easy to reload. Being a revolver round, even a crappy reload will fire and you do not have to worry about it jamming up the action.

Sixth gun. Taurus Judge in 3 inch 410/45 Colt. Most people do not consider a ';shot gun pistol'; as a good weapon but up close it is a real stopper. Specially if loaded with #3 or #4 shot. 410 is common and it is not too hard to remove small pellets and add bigger stuff.

Seventh gun. Any 50 BMG. Considering how much they all cost, beggers can not be choosers. Any one of them is a very dangerous weapon and can be used as a long range sniper gun. Reloading this would be a must as the ammo costs a bundle.

Eighth gun. A large capacity pump action 12 guage shot gun. Make does not matter. You would want this for close in work inside a building. A last resort type of weapon. The Marines showed how effective shot guns are in WW ONE in the trenches.

Ninth gun. There are a number of guns out there with interchangeable barrels and magazines. I believe old HK4 came with barrels and magazines for 22, 25, 32 and 380. That way you can shoot a lot of rounds that others may just ignore because they have no gun to shoot it. If the only ammo you can find is 25 ACP you got it covered.

Tenth gun. Secret. Always have a secret. If someone every asks you what kinds of guns you have, do not tell them all of them. If they ever try to round up the guns they will search every database they can, including chat to find people claiming to have guns.
Oy. Ok, the fewer guns you have to shlep around, the better. You would need something to do the following:

A rifle for longer range, and for bigger game for food.

A shotgun for in closer, and also for gathering food.

A hundgun for real close personal protection.

    A .22 for gathering food.

Mix and match whatever suits you best. If I didn't have to carry it all by myself, I'd take them all. If I was having to hump it all by my lonesome, it would be a scoped hunting rifle, a .22 pistol, and if weight permits, a 9mm handgun.
Hunting - Remington 870 chambered in 12 gauge.

    Ruger 10/22

    Remington 700 chambered in .308

    Self Defense - Springfield 1911 .45 cal

    AR-15 .223/5.56 NATO

    AK-47 7.62x39

    S%26amp;W .357 Magnum

    Glock 19 9mm

    Ruger .380 ACP

    Barrett Model 82A1 .50 BMG

I would make sure I had a machete, axe, knives, rope, fishing line, hooks, compass, and plenty of ammo.

Top choice for both hunting and self defense Rem 870 12 gauge.
    I would only need 2.

    AK-47

Glock 23 or full size glock

Ak-47 for when things get down and dirty, its THE BEST weapon period. For killing in any terrain.

And in a life or death situation i KNOW it would fire EVERY TIME no matter how bad things get.

I wouldn't mind having an m4 or AR, but they require alot of cleaning and care to fire 100%.

Just speaking from personal experience.....if war happens...

Don't go fancy....you may regret it when conditions get dirty or severe.

I want something with VERY LOOSE clearances for dirt and sand to fly thru. Gotta be able to take minimal cleaning and high abuse.

Glock is like the ak-47 of pistols....it can take everything the AK can....nuff said.

Hunting and Self defense are completely reliant on TWO things.

    1.) Skill

    2.) Simplicity
10 would be too heavy to pack. Need to narrow the list to 4 or 5.

I would be fine with less than ten. Lets see, 12 ga Mossberg, Ruger 10/22, AR of some make, any good bolt .308, and any good high cap 9 pistol.

That should cover anything that comes up.

If a person had a way to carry more(and the funds!), something like the new Barrett 416 would come in handy. Also a good 223 bolt or single shot could come in handy as well as something along the line of a Ruger PC9.

    Good luck.

    Dave
    In this order:

    Ruger 10/22

    Springfield XD .45

Remington 700 SPS tactical .308 (only if you have skill as a shooter, if not any bolt action rifle will do)

I would definately agree with the Springfield XD, however in .45 acp. If your not familiar with it, imagine a beefed up glock

Couldn't come up with 10, its all preferance I think
During WWII the allies droped single shot pistols all over France that had a note attached which read:';Take this gun and kill a german with it and take his gun!';.....all you need is one gun that you can hit with and it will get you whatever you need! That gun was called:The Liberty Pistol.
    You only need 2

    1. Rifle for range, get a Rem 700 (30-06) FMJ for armor and metal peircing. Get things cleared from far away were its safe. It's cheap and reliable.

    2. Shotgun for close range, maybe a Rem 870 or if you could possibly get your hands on one, a SPAS 12. Many options on ammo, slugs, buck, accessories, good for takin down one person, or groups of people.

    Both are good for hunting
    You only need two........

    A Ruger Mini 14 carbine.....

    http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/F鈥?/a>

    http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-NEWMini14.鈥?/a>

And a decent pistol chambered in 9MM (high magazine capacity)....

I like the Springfield Armory XD Pistols......

    http://www.springfield-armory.com/xd.php鈥?/a>
10/22 with a red dot scope.

    Rem 700 .308 with 6-24 scope

    Rem 870 12gauge slug/ buck

    Barret M82A1 50BMG 4 long range

    Glock 17 9mm

    and an M4 6.8

    should cover what you need.
I'd take my Romak-3 with after market scope, suitable for hunting, and some defense situations.

And my back up/bug out gun would be an M4 style AR-15 paired with an FNP-45.
How much weight you trying to carry? Take two, three TOPS.

A Ruger 10/22 and a M1A (or AR15, depending on preference). A shotgun with a slug barrel if you can manage.
Concealable handguns only. Any visible firearm and you'll be dead before leaving your neighborhood.
We would only need one gun. it's name is Patrick Swayze.

If i have done target practice with a bow for a couple years in Minnesota do i hav to take a bow hunting class?

i have a nice hunting bow and and know how to shoot oneIf i have done target practice with a bow for a couple years in Minnesota do i hav to take a bow hunting class?
Why would you? I live in MN and hunt legally all the time. There is no law stating that you need to take some bow hunting class to hunt legally! You know how to work a bow safely and just know the regulations. Here are the regulations.

    http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/regulat鈥?/a>

Take your bow out, get a permit for whatever you want to kill, and have fun.If i have done target practice with a bow for a couple years in Minnesota do i hav to take a bow hunting class?
No, you don't ';have to'; take a bowhunting safety class -- but why wouldn't you want to, just to show that you really DO know what you're doing?

Knowing how to shoot a bow is not the same as knowing how to use it SAFELY. Quick question: When is it a good idea to climb into a tree stand with an arrow nocked on the bowstring? If you can answer that correctly, you MIGHT actually know what you're doing.
Yes you do have to take the bow hunting class. Why?

How would you otherwise convince them that you know the ins and outs of bowhunting? Really.

You expect them to take your word for it?
Unless you're totally convinced you know everything there is to know about your bow and how to use it... what could it hurt?
There is nothing to be lost in taking the course and surely much to be gained in learning good safety habits from experienced bow hunters.

    Take the course.

Is it legal to carry a hunting knife that is sheathed and in sight, of any lenghth in the state of missouri?

This is referred to as ';open-carry'; and it is legal UP TO A POINT.

The law mainly refers to concealed carry and ';brandishing';, but there are obvious social implications of carrying a big knife around on your belt.

If your walking a trail, going fishing or hunting, that's usually fine. But walking around town into a grocery store with a big knife is going to look very weird. A person may call the police on you no matter what the law says because their afraid. And police of course are going to stop and question you, wanting to know why you need that big knife, which they would have every reason to ask. Depending on the circumstances, you may be arrested anyway due to that individual officer's interpretation of the situation. Even if said officer is wrong, that's still a night in jail.Is it legal to carry a hunting knife that is sheathed and in sight, of any lenghth in the state of missouri?
No it is not legal to carry a knife of ';any length.'; Contact the police station nearest to you and ask what the legal length is in Missouri. Is it legal to carry a hunting knife that is sheathed and in sight, of any lenghth in the state of missouri?
I'm not sure about Missouri but in Michigan you may carry a knife as long as the blade is less than 3 inches in length and it can not be double edged and you must carry it in the open. In sight.

Eastorn Axis arrows vs aluminun for hunting & league ?

Where can I find the best price on Axis arrows?Eastorn Axis arrows vs aluminun for hunting %26amp; league ?
The Axis is the Cadillac of arrows and the old aluminum arrows is the model T- well not that big a comparison.

I held off on the carbon arrows until 3 years ago. There is for me no comparison between the two- The carbon will out penetrate the aluminum arrow in tests that I had to conduct myself before I would believe it. Before the carbon I had to buy two dozen aluminum arrows to practice with before hunting season and another dozen to get me through hunting season - I shoot a lot and bend , ding and ruin a lot of arrows with the carbon I only had to buy one dozen to do both-practice and hunt with- this makes the carbon much cheaper in the long run ,

To get the cheapest prices on the Axis you need to get on the net and check what's out there price wise- good luck and good hunting!

What rifle is better for hunting?

a 7mm or a 30-06 i need lots of answers first time buying a rifle

    witch has more power?

    witch is more accurate?

    witch has the better look?

    what has higher range?

    witch is more reliable

    ammo price?

price has to been around $700

please tell me what you think is the better gunWhat rifle is better for hunting?
As for the cartridges, 7mm Mag and 30-06 load out almost exactly the same for powder/bullet weight. 7 Mag does have some sectional density advantages till the 30-06 gets to the 165 grains, then the 30-06 has advantages. (The 7 x 57 Mauser is a smaller cartridge than the 7 Mag,not quite as powerful, but is a wonderful deer cartridge, even for elk. )

Both cartridges would be acceptable to 400 yards for ethical deer hunting, that is pretty close to cartridge/bullet and hunter optics effective limits too.

Each gun is individual in accuracy, buying factory ammo you have to find the best match to YOUR rifle. I hand load and my 30-06 has sub MOA accuracy for 5 shot groups. Any modern quality rifle/ammo combination should provide a 3 shot group of under 2 inches with proper selection of that ammo. Some rifles shoot one type factory ammo amazingly well, something else is totally different.

Cost for 30-06 factory ammo is normally slightly less, but might be only a 5-10% difference.

As for reliability and looks, that depends on the rifle you choose.

If I'm spending $700 on just the rifle the first I'm looking for is a CZ 550,then a Sako A7 near that price. They both retail higher than $700 but are normally near that for real world pricing. I own Browning A-Bolts, and like their ergonomics, but they are normally above $700 when not on sale. You can sometimes find Remington Model 700s on sale for $400 at Cabela's,and if you are spending more than $600 on a Remington you need to look at other rifles. Savage makes a good entry-mid level rifle, and the Howa 1500/Weatherby Vanguard line is a real value at $425-$450--less at WalMarts that sell rifles. WalMart has Remington 700s for $450 most of the time too. Ruger makes a very solid rifle, and I prefer their stainless over the blue models. they are normally $600-$700.

My preference is to purchase 30-06,simply because the ammo is more readily available anywhere, and you have a wide selection of loadings from every ammo manufacturer and every rifle maker has a 30-06 in it's line-up.

EDIT: Not to be mean but Soccermaniac should consult a reloading manual or five,or at least understand external ballistics and terminal performance ballistics. 308 is a smaller cartridge than 30-06,and provides less velocity. 270 is a lighter bullet on average and loses momentum and velocity faster than a 30-06,thus it isn't ';flatter shooting'; after 200 yards. 7mm is .284 diameter while 30-06 is .308 diameter,so for same weight bullet the .284 is longer--that is sectional density and ballistic co-efficient difference. Do some research and don't rely on folklore. What rifle is better for hunting?
Well they are both distance guns with about the same price for good ammo give or take a few dollars. The 7mm will have better take down power at further distances but the 30-06 will still get the job done. Either way you've got your deer as long as the scope is accurate. The 7mm bullet is bigger so it will drop slightly more the further the shot than the 30-06 will. If you don't need distance shots i would go with a 30-30 thats what i use and it has never failed. It will drop a deer at 100yds and is a good brush gun which means the bullet won't sway because of brush. For long distances i use a 308 just because i believe it to be more powerful and extremely accurate compared to the 30-06 and 270. You can get the gun in any kind of finish that you want, some will just cost more. For more info you can look up specifics for these guns and how the different grain bullets will effect the shot at certain distances.
Both are excellent, very well established big game cartridges. As for a first rifle, you can't go wrong with either and it just depends on true needs. In my experience, the .30-06 has excellent knock down on close up whitetails, it is that simple. It has the bullet weight and muscle to plow through a deer's frame, and just kills like lightning. While the .30-06 is my ';close-up'; choice, the 7mm Mag is better for long range. I've shot deer at close range in the woods, and it just doesn't seem to knock the deer over. Yes, it is very powerful, but those bullets just seem to rip through deer due to the higher velocity. But at long range, the 7mm is the obvious choice. It shoots flatter than the .30-06, and when it strikes the deer, it'll be going faster with more energy. As for reliability, both have been counted on for many years. You will have no trouble finding ammo for either in sporting good stores, and the 7mm costs only slightly more than the '06. So to sum it up, I can't tell you which is my ';favorite'; because both have their purposes, and they fill those purposes quite nicely. Bottom line, if shots are going to be under 250 yards, go with the .30-06. If you can expect to routinely take 300+ yards shots, then go with the 7mm. Might I also add, be careful shooting long distance, and just use your head. It is harder to hit targets at long range, and a smart hunter will be reasonable with the range they are capable of shooting at ethically. Good luck on the choice.
There are several 7mm chamberings, so you'll have to be a bit more specific. Some of the 7 mm cartridges will put a 150 grain bullet out there a bit faster than the equivalent 165 grain bullet in a 30-06, others a bit less. And since the same rifle is often offered in both 30-06 and two or three different 7mm chamberings, the accuracy, looks, and such will be a moot point.
a lot of valid info has already been proferred, but the plain fact is most of us will go our entire hunting life without ever encountering an animal who would react differently if shot with a .308 vs. a .30-06 vs a .270 vs. a 7mm.

If you are exclusively shooting at long range, then go with a Magnum, either 7mm or .300.

If you hunt only in thick woods, a .308 or 7mm-08 carbine would be good.

But for darn near everything everywhere, nobody ever went wrong with a .30-06.
Here are some comparison specs of the two calibers.

    http://www.remington.com/products/ammuni鈥?/a>

You can see here how many more choices there are on the '06:

    http://www.remington.com/products/ammuni鈥?/a>

As far as the better look, that's a question only you can answer. What some people like, others don't. I saw a Weatherby Vanguard at Wal-Mart the other day at (I think) around $400 with a scope, and I have a friend who has one and loves it. One of the best all-round bolt action guns I'm somewhat familiar with is the Remington 700. My brother-in-law has 4 of them in different calibers, and he won't buy anything else.

The prices on the ammo is probably comparable, except that there are a lot more choices in .30-06, and you can get a lot of bullet weights and load sizes, and buy them just about anywhere.
What kind of deer? Puny PA white tails or are we talking western Mule Deer? Big difference in size and require different calibers.

Are you going to want to hunt ground hogs long range? What else are you going to hunt with the gun? Where do you live? If most of your hunting is done is dense, brush covered land, you want a different gun than if you're hunting in wide open spotty forrest and fields. How long will you possibly be shooting?

  • Best time to go coyote hunting ?

Ok i live in south carolina and we are having problems with coyotes on our land. I am hunting with a single shot 12 gauge. The coyotes have came between 20-30 yards of me before. So when is the best time to hunt them (What months and times of the day do i need to go)Best time to go coyote hunting ?
If you want to just get rid of them now is a great time. At this time of year they are running in dinning packs, as they have just had their litters a short time ago. Young dogs are very gullible. If you are after a trophy then winter is the best for the fir is in it's prime. As for a single shot 12 gauge the only drawback is it being a single shot. Use good calling and camo or a blind. We use shotguns for the close in dogs and rifles for the long shots as needed. If you are real lucky take out the alpha male and you will solve your problem. As for time of day we hunt any time that is legal. Just check be for hunting at night as it mite not be legal in your area. We can only hunt on privet property at night for predators.Best time to go coyote hunting ?
When you hear them. Now, as soon as those very smart animals realize (1) you are actively out to kill them with that big and visible thunder stick, and (2) that it's range is easy to stay just out of, you will have precious few offered reasonable shots. However, good calling techniques and a good blind can offset this, enough or not remains to be seen. Any deer rifle will take coyotes just fine, and better if loaded with light varmint bullets to greatly reduce recoil for the best shooter accuracy. If offered cheap, a 243 makes a very good varmint and deer meat gun, with negligible recoil even with deer loads, for maximum shooter accuracy. Trophy hunters need capability of rear shots making it all the way to the front on that one lifetime opportunity, and a 308 or so does that. But meat hunters get offered lots of clean broadside lung shots which don't mess up much meat, and a 243 is overkill. Match the tool to the job, and it's not a 12 gauge for coyotes. Regards, Larry.
    Camaro,

There is not fun time with Coyotes. The best time, year round, is from midnight till sunup. Get a good spotlight with a red lens, because they can't see the red light. Be careful out there.
if u try a .223 you will have longer range. Either just after deer season(mmmmm tasty gut piles!) or spring when they have pups. try a kiyi call at this time.
    Early morning. In the fall.

What are some good bargain-hunting tips?

I'm trying to be a smart shopper. What are some good bargain-hunting tips?
The first thing you want to do is disguise yourself as a bargain. Carefully infiltrate the bargain encampment and learn as much as you can. Once you have found the best bargains, separate them from the rest. Tie the good bargains up and take them with you to the check-out and leave the lousy bargains to fend for themselves. With enough practice, you should be able to pick out good bargains easily and pass up the bad ones on sight. Oh yeah, don't forget to get your bargain hunters license first and if you have a significant other, be sure to let them know you'll be home shortly so they don't think they'll become bargain hunter widowers.

What are some cons for hunting deer?

i know what your thinking another PETA person no i love hunting.

I have to write an essay for effective writing for Pros and Cons of deer hunting if you can help me that would be amazingWhat are some cons for hunting deer?
I am a proud member of peta. The money and time spent on deer hunting could easily allow most people to just to the grocery store and buy the same amount of meat. People disrupt their sleep patterns to get out in the field early.

A few pros, if you take a kid on his.her hunt first successful hunt you bond in a special way. You get to teach the kid responsibility and how to field dress and animal.

Yes, I am a member of peta... People Eating Tasty Animals. What are some cons for hunting deer?
I had to think about it for a while, but these are the only negatives I could come up with:

    1) The desire to have the best guns and equipment can cause you to spend more money than you probably should.

    2) Anticipation of your next hunting trip can lead to daydreaming, and a resultant bit of trouble in school, at work, etc.

    3) Time away from your family can cause alienation of affection (my wife told me to put that one in)

Actually most of the ';cons'; that the peta people come up with aren't necessarily about hunting, but about poaching. Things like shooting too many animals, shooting out of season, and shooting non-game animals are examples of poaching. If the idiots at peta would listen to real hunters, they'd realize that we hate those guys just as much.
Well I would say the cons are the money it costs due to all of that scent remover, camoflauge, guns and ammo. Umm, then theres the time it takes away from your week(even if your having fun), because hunting takes a long time. Then last theres the common uncomfortable conditions like if you hunt in the North, it gets very cold in the winter and if it rains and you don't have something over your head, you're screwed. But thats all I can think of, everything else with hunting is a pro.
Anthony that was hilarious LMAO I can hardly type I am laughing so hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ugh I really cannot think of any that aren't applicable to hikers and other outdoors people as well. Things such as trail erosion and destruction , litter and the like. But in all honesty hunters are more concerned about leaving no trace so even those are minimized. I suppose the only con I can think of might be the occasional moron who doesn't hunt safely and shoots somebody but in all honesty the cons are all towards illegal hunting, aka poaching. And no law will stop them only annoy legal hunters who most of the time call those idiots in anyway.
Honestly, I can't think of any

    Pros:

Hunting deer results in better survival rates for other deer, and actually keeps others from starving and such.

    Helps prevent car-deer collisions.

    Gets you food.

Helps the economy when people buy ammo and guns made in the USA.

Provides countless hours of fun and bonding with your kid/friends.

Gets kids outside and off their asses.

    Can involve lots of exercise.

Every time you go out to hunt, you make another peta tool angry.

    Cons:

    Hm. Can be expensive.

There is a 1 in a billion chance you might die in a hunting accident.

I'll edit if I think of something else.
The little bambi screaming for its momma, all the freakin' blood and guts! ran out of beer! too drunk and shot your truck! Forgot to take your gun with you when you went to take a dump and had a four point stand up in front of you at 25 yards! Having freakin' liberal hikers call you Rambo! and Ooooh big man!...Having a blasted game dept. official step out from behind a bush while driving down the dirt road with a loaded rifle and a beer between your legs!... and on and on it goes!
    cons

-pissed off girlfriend/wife at home waiting for you

that's all i can think of.

deer hunting has no real cons, its when you get into deer poaching, and over hunting when you run into cons.

but if you do everything by the law, there's no real cons.
while i do approve of hunting my neighbor did get a bullet through his window and into his couch because a deer hunter did not follow the laws in place (he didn't use a stand) and he/she missed. luckily my neighbor is ok but had it been a short time before he would have been shot.
Spending too much time in the woods makes the wife mad if you make her a ';hunter widow'; each year. However, without spending the time in the woods to relieve my stress makes her not want to be around me. You have to find the right balance, but until then, one or the other is unhappy.
    con/s:

    - running out of tags for deer

    - running out of ammo

    - can't get off from school/work to go hunting

    - harder to find places to hunt that everyone doesn't go to

    - more coyotes (well, at least for me)

but there are WAY WAY more pros :)
    * Just knowing that No Deer Ever Dies of Old Age, they Die a Slow, Painful, Lingering Death from Starvation because they can no longer Eat when they get to Old because their Teeth Deteriorate.*
the one con I can think of is rusing your shot and not making a fast kill. and yes, dont use CAPS for peta, unless your saying People Eating Tastey Animals, than please just spell it out.
There are none what so ever only positives both for the deer population and the hunters
    1st don't capitalize peta
The only ';con'; I can think of is the way some states gouge non-resident hunters for license fees.
    There aren't any.
the only cons to deer hunting is bag limits.
none but if u had to pick one i would say the cold.
    being mistaken for one.

  • So has anyone been snipe hunting latly i hear they are in season?

Sure, you hold the bag.So has anyone been snipe hunting latly i hear they are in season?
I am from Maine, and went snipe hunting only yesterday. I would go today, but you can't hunt on Sundays in Maine. Snipe hunting is a lot of fun, but I ain't seen one in years. Maybe it is the loss of habitat, or something but snipe hunting ain't what it use to be.So has anyone been snipe hunting latly i hear they are in season?
No snipe in my area.. but I have been going out and taking woodcock. Bag limit is 3 per day but luckily I have a nice marshy valley about 300 yards from the house that's full of them so I can step out the door and do some hunting when I get the urge.
Well in New Englandand Upsate New York there is a cousin of the Woodcock sometimes called a snipe that should be in season now. Now in the Southern USA there is never a closed season for Snipe Hunting.
Sure, In the UK we can hunt common snipe from 12 August - 31 January. No Bag limits. On a walked up shoot snipe and woodcock add some variety to the day.
Yes, they are in season here, I passed up a shot on one because we had ducks comming into the decoys.
Well , I dont believe there is a season for WILSON SNIPE...Thats like a season for sea gull...smarty pants!
    No, but I'm ready!

In terms of quality and durability, whats the best brand for turkey hunting clothes.?

Im also looking for the best bang for my buck in terms of boots. what ever helpfull info you can pass along would be amazing. thanksIn terms of quality and durability, whats the best brand for turkey hunting clothes.?
Well I don't know about durability, since I only bought them this season, but I got good bang-for-buck out of Bass Pro's house brand (Red Head Silent Hide) and Army Boots (which I already had).

Good Luck.In terms of quality and durability, whats the best brand for turkey hunting clothes.?
definitely rocky boots, my dad hunts with them and all that walking, they have to be comfy.
i dont hunt turkey. i recomend carhart camo work pants and cowboy boots or tennis shoes and a snow camo parka, and a black or camo ski mask. maybe a camo baseball hat if your head gets cold.
I have Wrangler camo jeans that I bought at the Wrangler outlet, and they are pretty hard to tear when you crawl through a barb wire fence. I just have a long sleeved camo t-shirt, nothing fancy. I have a pair of Rocky camo boots that I got at Cabela's on close-out.
Scentlok. they are pretty pricey but, they are nice. you can also use them if you hunt deer. they are completly durible and comfy. the other cheaper brands; mossy oak are realy comfy, redhead are nice and warm, brownings clothing line is worth it. As far as boots go. i bought some hunter camo wal mart boots have had them two years and they are holding up wonderfuly. i bought the ones with bigger ankels. they are waterproof too. they are Barhama i think it is. its the wal mart brand but they hold up wonderfully and they are warm in winter and cool in summer.
A pair of Wrangler Camo jeans for $30 from my local outdoor retailer, Mossy Oak Collared shirt, and a good weather proof hat (my Mossy Oak 3W hat is my personal favorite, it has a plastic liner in it that blocks wind and rain. Takes awhile getting used to, but well worth it for $10 at Wal-Mart.)

As for boots, my Rocky's with 800 grams of Thin-Sulate (you can get less if you would like) are perfect. I wear them for work, hunting, and everything else. As comfortable or more than my regular shoes. And their only about $75!

I've had all of this for about three years, and it all is like new!

    Hope this helps.
I hunt with a 3-d leaf suit for turkeys. like this one http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa鈥?/a> It is a mesh so it can go over any thing you wear. I have hunted in blue jeans and t shirt on warm spring days and put it over multiple layers in the fall. I have had turkeys within feet of me with this suit on. I have had this suit for 5 years and still in great shape. I recomend this suit for all types of hunting. As far as boots with this suit just make sure they have a real dark sole and are comfortable and you are set.

Is a shotgun with an 18.5'; barrel too short for goose hunting?

Why or why not? Advantages or disadvantages?

Thank you for answering? Is a shotgun with an 18.5'; barrel too short for goose hunting?
Barrel length itself has nothing to do with the spread of a shot pattern. A full-choke 18'; barrel is better for long-range work than a cylinder-bore 30'; tube. The assumption here has been that your barrel is indeed an open-choke police or defence-type barrel, and no, that will not do for geese, unless you are stalking them within about 15 yards.

Waterfowl guns have traditionally had very long barrels, up to 36';, for three reasons: to give a longer sight plane for long-range accuracy, to facilitate a good swing and follow-thru for shooting birds ';on the wing';, and to fully burn black-powder loads, irrelevant today as most modern smokeless-powder shells burn efficiently in 20-22'; of barrel.

So you should probably get yourself a gun with a 28'; barrel and interchangeable choke tubes. With steel shot, the ';improved-modified'; choke can pattern as well or better than the traditional full choke. If you're a lousy wing-shot like me, a 20'; or 22'; barrel will be a lot easier to maneuver, however unconventional, though recoil will be more pronounced. Either way, choke - not length - is key.Is a shotgun with an 18.5'; barrel too short for goose hunting?
Whoever says velocity and pattern size is affected doesn't know what they're talking about. It's fine.

The swinging is not as bad as one might think on a short barreled gun. It's much more important to make sure the length of pull (butt stock) fits you properly in winter clothing.

The only real negative to having a short barreled waterfowl gun is that you may never be invited to go hunting with people a second time. If you're in a blind, you need a long 28-30'; (26 at the absolute min) barrel to stick out past your hunting buddies. Do you know how loud a shotgun blast is when the barrel is still in the pit or blind???

If you're hunting layouts, that's one thing. If you're hunting with a couple people in the same blind, they will not be happy with you.

That's the real reason people use the long barrels.
Unless you can sneak up to within about 50 feet of the geese yes it is. Barrel length will give you a tighter pattern on your shot at close range and keep it from spreading until it gets farther out. My experience with geese is shooting at that little bitty speck in the sky or way the heck out on the lake. Never ever close in. My gun was a 12 guage, 2 3/4 inch mag with a full choke 28 inch barrel. I can think of three direct hits on geese that rocked them in the air but didnt bring them down. tough birds. Had I been using a shorter barrel that let the shot patter disperse too wide, too early I wouldnt have even hit them. For geese I found that bigger is always better. a 10 guage with a long barrel is usually adequate to the task.

I gave up goose hunting becasue in 7 years of shooting at them I never brought down a single one. And I got tired of freezing my butt off for nothing.
I have to say it depends on the range, but my gut says YES unless youre hunting the ones in a city park. (Dont hunt in the park, it was just a joke.) The short barrel wont do a very good job of keeping the pellets together in a tight pattern. You will likely do a lot more injury than humane killing.
    Too short.......

The problem is the shot would pattern so wide that many of the pellets and maybe all would sail right on by the goose never hitting it.....

Look here for lots of shotgun info......

    http://www.chuckhawks.com/index2c.shotgu鈥?/a>
Technically no, but it will be much harder to aim with that lower-probably not ribbed barrel. The velocity will be lower too than good 28-30inch goose guns.
    Not,for close ranges shooting.

Why in the world do most of you people in here put a negative on HUNTING ? Is it Disney's input or ignorance?

I dislike it because it's not necessary. We have stores you can buy meat at... there's no reason to have to go out hunting.

Hunting for survival makes sense to me.

Hunting because you want to stalk and kill something for the thrill is just a bloodlust.

We no longer need to hunt for survival, so there's only one reason someone would do it.Why in the world do most of you people in here put a negative on HUNTING ? Is it Disney's input or ignorance?
I have no problem with hunting, is the whole animal is used. The only problem I have with hunting, is the use of these super long range guns, where you can take down game from miles away. I have many friends that hunt, and they bow and arrow hunt. That takes skill. Why in the world do most of you people in here put a negative on HUNTING ? Is it Disney's input or ignorance?
Not in my case. I'm not against hunting for sustenance but for sport I am against it.

and what places should i go? im 18! so i can apply pretty much any where but i dont wanna go to every place all the other kids are applying at...help!Going job hunting tomorrow! HELP! what to wear? how to ask for an application or do i ask if they r hiering?
Sounds like you are planning on walking in to apply- which means you are probably looking at retail. Regardless of the type of job- you want to be prepared as if they will interview you on the spot.

    1) What to wear:

Since you're going door-to-door you need comfortable shoes

You need to look professional, a suit if you have one. If not then a dress/skirt and cardigan

If you have any piercings, remove them all except 1 earring per ear in the lobe and not in the cartiledge, etc.

Again- your hopes is to have them interview you right on the spot if they have a need.

    2) Arm yourself- Be prepared!

Make sure you have dates, addresses, phone numbers, manager's names and numbers to complete an application. In today's market- you need to fill it out on the spot and give it right back to them- so make sure you have all your past job information ready to go.

If you have a resume- make sure you have plenty of copies to hand in with all the applications you may fill out

    3) How do I know if they're hiring?

If there aren't any obvious signs, or local ad job postings, etc. then go to the customer service desk. It is always appropriate to introduce yourself and tell them you are interested in applying for a position. I.e. Hi I'm Rhonda and I am interested in applying for a position here, do you know if you're currently hiring?'; If they aren't sure- be confident enough to ask if they will call a supervisor to assist you. If they are hiring, ';Great, can you tell me the application process? Is it okay if I fill out an application now?'; Etc. If they are not hiring, don't be afraid to ask if they might be in the future and when that might be- ';Oh that's too bad, can you tell me if you might have needs in the next month or when a better time might be to check back?'; Don't be afraid to leave a resume if you have one even if they aren't hiring tomorrow- and don't be afraid to ask for a business card to follow up. Most managers have them regardless of the type of industry their in.

Make sure you have plenty of pens and a clipboard if you have one- makes it so much easier to fill out an application rather than using your lap.

    Best of luck to you!

You're not being logical about this. You should see if one of the ghosts you've already caught could recommend what they've seen people using. Or, surely someone at ghosthunting.com could let you come over and ask one of the many ghosts they've caught what they recommend.

Who hates hunting and trapping and fishing?

If you do, I don't like you. the are the top sports in America. I do all three of them, and so should you. Why don't you like it? Oh, you are a little 3 year old kid. That is why. Stupid PETAWho hates hunting and trapping and fishing?
im guessing the deer, rabbits and fish.

if you enjoy it get on it and dont worry about what others thinkWho hates hunting and trapping and fishing?
i love it all i hunt 18 deer.trapped 7 hogs and caught over 200 fish is last year and this year. i don't kill them i tranquilize them i know a guy to get tranquilizes.its fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    cause they all SUCK
I decided not to shoot at creatures that are not trying to kill me. But you go right ahead, big brave fellow....
well not me i prefer playing street soccer
I love fishing. Never got into huinting though. Too many drunken idiots in the woods.
You know I must say it is people like you that make the rest of us hunters look bad. I'm sorry to say that, but look at the way you posed this question. you posed it to make all the Anti's show how juvenile some people can be.

I hunt for my family. We don't have much money and all the animals I harvest are used for meat in a year. because we can not afford to feed ourselves otherwise. I am in the woods every day during hunting season, harvesting game for my table.

I dispatch my animals in a very humane way whether it be with bow, rifle, shotgun, or muzzeloader. The animals I harvest do not suffer.

Hunting is also needed to control the population, Like the one from colorado said they are in her town and worse than squirells. This is because the land in the area can not support such a large herd of deer. And due to that, the herd is slowly starving to death. Then natural selection will take over and, due to a large death of animals who starved to death will bring diseases to the area. Many of which can cause human deaths. And to her that is NOT only a bad idea it is just plain dangerous to try taking game in town.

To all the anti's who read this, hunting has been going on for thousands of years. It is how we have such a HEALTHY population of animals. The department of Natural Resources (or the same in your state) know how to maintain a population of ANY given animal in their state, to PROMOTE health and exsistance to that group of animals and the humans who reside there as well. That is why there are limits to the game a person takes. Also it provides people like me and my family the meat we cannot purchase from a store.

Also it provides such good experiences. I can't wait until my own son is old enough to go out with me. It is true bonding time. Just like my father did with me, and his father, and his father and his father, and so forth. I have helped the children in this town get into hunting that wanted to, and who have lost their father's or just don't have family who hunt.

I know none of you will ever change your ideals and I don't really care how you feel. And yes there are alot of unethical hunters out there, those are all the ones you hear about in the news. I don't care for those people either. But there are those of us that NEED to harvest animals to survive. And there are alot more of us that do the right thing than there are of the others. just remember that.
You sound like you could use some prozac man. Happy hunting to ya.
I would have answered if I did not read your 'details' - you and I are not in the same intellectual league.
Because the definition of hunting is stupid. I believe sitting in a tree or whatever in camoflauge and then shooting some unsuspecting animal is not hunting. Now, if a person was to have like a stick or knife or even their own teeth and actually have to hunt the animal out (without some ATV to sit his fat *** on) and chase it down and then kill it like that, then I would say that was hunting.
I hunt, I shoot rifles for target practice to maintain good shot skills, I appreciate and respect America's 2nd ammendment right, and am the holder of a ccw for the past 11 years.Lifetime member NRA,VCDL. All you've done is inflame a already hot topic! Calling the anti's names in such an immature manner only gives THEM fuel, by using you as an example of guns in the wrong hands.GROW UP, rethink your next ';pro gun, pro hunting'; and invest in some education yourself
People don't understand that these animals have been hunted and fished and trapped since the beginning of time. The Native Americans (or whatever native people) were more abundant back in the day and they didn't have Quick-E-Marts. They caught these animals, the health of the herd depends on them being hunted. Also, they have evolved to breed fast because of hunting. If they aren't hunted, they overpopulate and start destroying stuff and starve when they eat all the food.

People are ignorant. People don't understand nature and it's balances.

I support licenced, lawful, hunting, fishing and trapping.
';$%26amp;% you man, you are an idiot, all americans who think like you are a piece of cr%p sure, now you are cruel to animals, what have they done to you, you retarded piece of %26amp;%$路 One they there wont be animals left for you to practice your sick absurd games on and by that day, earth will already have collapsed socialy and economicaly. Why?? Because if there are no animals tourism goes down, Economy goes down, Our health goes down are our minds will be so preverted that we wont be able to think for ourselves anymore. You think about that
    Got some issues there,huh!
I don't like trapping as much as i like hunting, but fishing is the best of the three!

that but for sport that's ridiculous. I am not a PETA enthusiast but killing for fun is so lame.
All 3 are ok if you need to to make a living or feed yourself. But killing something just to have a head to stuff or to have a photo taken beside something dead is wrong.
PETA= People eating tasty animals. I love hunting and trapping, but I prefer catching over fishing.

    Telephone: (204) 837-4080
no. hunting shops dont normally sell this kind of stuff. hunting shops sell stuff to kill animals.

you could try the local military surplus store, if you're lucky the clerk might test it out with the shotgun under the counter, while you try it on.
You go to the upper right corner of this page (web search) then type in Bullet proof vest and then click web search.

Basics and Tips on Javalina (Wild Boar) Hunting in Texas?

  • If I get a felony exsponged from my record can I own a deer hunting gun?

You need to check the laws in your state. If I get a felony exsponged from my record can I own a deer hunting gun?
if it is expunged, it is as if it never happened.

On a job application if they ask you 'have you ever been arrested?' you can even answer NO because all parts leading up to the felony conviction are gone as well.If I get a felony exsponged from my record can I own a deer hunting gun?
No, the only way to obtain your rights to own a firearm is either through a governors or presidential pardon.

Having the felony expunged from your record does not reinstate your right to own firearms. You must be fully pardoned.

Hunting dogs...How do you get them use to the gun sound??

just a question that poped in my head that i had to ask...I mean don't it scare them...Also is hunting in the breading or in the training...Hunting dogs...How do you get them use to the gun sound??
If you have a dog that has never been exposed to the sound of gunfire, I would take it to a commercial shooting range. Park at the farthest point possible from the actual shooting. Bring the dog out of the car (on leash) and walk with it toward the shooting area. Go only a small distance, then wait a few minutes, praise the dog, and then go a bit farther, then wait a few minutes, praise the dog, and then go a bit farther, etc. If the dog shows any sign of discomfort, DO NOT go any farther that day. Go back to the last spot at which the dog was comfortable, and stay there for a few more minutes, if the dog seems ok there. If not, go back to the next-to-last spot and try again. Keep going, if necessary, until you find one that works or you are back at the car. If you are back at the car, just take the dog home and try again another day.

Once you get the dog comfortable with being near where people are shooting, take it to a secluded place where shooting is allowed and you won't be bothered. Also bring a .22LR rifle. Load the rifle. Put the safety on. Bring the dog out of the car on leash and walk a little distance from the car. Attach the leash to your belt so both hands are free, and fire the rifle. Pay close attention to the dog's reaction. Praise the dog. If the dog has no problem with the sound of the shot, fire another shot. If still no problem, praise the dog, and then fire a couple in quick succession. Praise the dog again. If the dog has been fine with all this, then you can do the same thing with a .22LR handgun. If the dog is still fine, you can then progress to a centerfire rifle (preferably small caliber to start, then larger, and so on). Remember to praise the dog after each shot.

I have trained all my hunting dogs this way (even some that I got as adults) and none of them have ever had any trouble with the sound of gunfire after that.Hunting dogs...How do you get them use to the gun sound??
    don't use firecrackers.

a stupid friend of mine did that

the dog retrived the fire cracker.

the dog now runs the other way at the slightest bang.
Well, you could get them used to it by shooting around them a lot. It also has a lot to do with the breed, a freind of mine raises Beagles and they are never scared by gunshots. It gets them really excited but not scared, they are bred to hunt. Technically, you can train any dog to be a hunter, but some dogs are just genetically predisposed to it.
    That is a good question.

The breeding plays a big role in the sucess of the dog but, the training plays a big part. In training a dog around the gun, you must start from a pup. Mainly, if you get a coon dog or a beagle, they are supposed to be trained around other dogs before you recieve them. If not, shooting around them is one of the only ways. If your dog is scared, shoot off a round, and then sooth it. Call it a good dog and give it a treat. Make it sit and put off another round, treat.

Train it like you are going to train it to do anything. Do not get mad at the dog for not listening or staying, or every time you shoot a gun, it will associate it with you being mad!
I have shot around all my dogs from pups on and can not explain that to you I have two 6 year old dogs 1 will run to the door and beg to get in the truck with you the other will go and hide at the site of a gun my puppy is 1 and 1/2 and will run to the truck they are all Brittney spaniels from the same blood lines so that is a hard question the will either hunt or they won't
